Allen Bike Racks is a company started by Dick Allen in his Lincoln, Massachusetts home. It was actually born out of his own need for bike racks, as he and his family would often go out biking. Allen Bike Racks was sold through a number of major distributors and today it owns over three-dozen patents. It is quite a trusted company, started by Dick Allen, a Harvard – trained physicist. The business is now handled by his son Alex and has expanded vastly.
The Allen Premium 5-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-inch receiver) is a very safe option to go with, because it offers you security as well as convenience. Keep in mind though; it isn’t very suitable for heavy duty usage. It features:
- A capacity for carrying up to 5 bikes at a time.
- 28” arms that drop down quickly for convenient storage.
- The new Quick Carry Arm release.
- Easy and fast set up and installation.
- Allen’s patented tie-down system.
- Separate tie-down strap.
Anyone can set up and install the rack- it only takes about 5 minutes. The rack is very convenient to use, and is not the high end, heavy duty type. It offers you enough security and expediency features for daily use, but it may be best not to test its endurance in extreme weather and terrains. You can, however, use it for long distances. The patented tie-down system ensures that the bikes are secure and protected at the same time. The separate tie-down strap prevents lower movement completely, which prevents bike to bike and car to car collisions. The rack comes with a no-wobble bolt that holds it securely within the hitch, adding to the security of the bikes. As you can see, the rack has a competent security system, enough to keep the bikes from wobbling dangerously.
The rack’s arms even drop down, allowing the rack to fold easily for storage. Once folded, you can stow it away in a cupboard. You can also stash it in your trunk, so that you don’t have to carry it to and from the car every time you decide to use it. The rack even tilts, so that you can access your trunk with the rack still attached.
Considering the rack can carry up to 5 bikes at a time, it comes at a very reasonable price. It even comes with a lifetime warranty, which is an added advantage.
The Allen Premium 5-bike Hitch Mount Rack has very few downsides to it if any. Also, any problems can be fixed easily and aren’t a big deal. This rack is a great option for regular use.
